What this site is
Benjuí is a reference journal about one material, benzoin resin, and the family it belongs to: the resins, balsams and gum resins that have been burned, worn and prescribed for a few thousand years. It is published in English and Spanish. The Spanish word benjuí gave the site its name.
Every article is written to be complete on its own: what the material is, where it comes from, what it smells like, what is in it, how it is used, and what to look for when buying. Where a claim depends on a number (a percentage of benzoic acid, a harvest year, a restriction level) we say where the number comes from and list the source at the end of the article.
Editorial rules
- No shop copy. We do not sell resins and we do not carry affiliate links. Buying guides describe grades and red flags, not products.
- Botany and chemistry first. Scent descriptions are subjective, so we anchor them to species, origin and known constituents before we reach for adjectives.
- Medicine is not our field. Articles on tincture of benzoin and traditional uses describe history and current pharmacopoeia status. They are not advice. Ask a pharmacist or physician before using anything on skin or in inhalation.
- Both languages are originals. The Spanish edition is written for Spanish-speaking readers, not machine-translated from the English, though the two editions cover the same ground and link to each other.
- Corrections are welcome. If a fact is wrong we would rather fix it than defend it. Dates of publication and of the last substantive update appear on every article.
How the site is built
Benjuí is a static site: plain HTML, self-hosted fonts, no trackers, no cookies, no third-party scripts. Pages carry structured data (Article, FAQ, Breadcrumb, DefinedTerm) so that search engines and AI assistants can cite them precisely. A machine-readable summary of the site lives at /llms.txt.
